Our company officially started in Spain in 1987 and was originally named Heinemann Iberia, although our books had been distributed here for many years previous to that date.

The story begins far away and long ago...

Mr. William Heinemann founded the company in 1890 in Covent Garden, London, and started publishing books by authors that are now enduringly famous such as Somerset Maugham, John Steinbeck, D.H. Lawrence and J.B. Priestley. Even today this strong literary tradition is reflected in our own world-renowned series of readers.

Our first educational titles were published in 1947, 54 years ago, and in 1988 Heinemann head office moved to Oxford in order to benefit from the ELT expertise centered there. Over the years we have established excellent contact with teachers and a dynamic publishing programme that reflects this close relationship. With the help of our modern publishing techniques we have always been "one step ahead" using the very best authors to create award winning titles.

In January 1998 Heinemann ELT became part of the Macmillan Group; one of the largest publishing groups worldwide with companies and offices all over the world. As an important division in the group, Macmillan Heinemann ELT, now called Macmillan ELT, is involved in the development of new international ELT products as well as the investigation and design of specific courses for different countries.

Spain, as one of the major countries for ELT , is the focus for our most important specific publishing projects. Macmillan ELT prides itself in providing a highly personal and professional service for teachers in Spain by way of our eleven regional offices and through a large number of distributors covering the whole country.

The most valuable asset for Macmillan ELT is our team of highly trained professionals who are always dedicated to helping teachers make their jobs easier. A full time teacher training team travels all over the country providing training sessions on recent developments in ELT methodology and demonstrating the most innovative techniques for Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

Day by day we see that new challenges and opportunities are appearing. The developments in new technologies, Internet and multimedia communication allow us to continue in the forefront of modern publishing as well as giving us new opportunities for closer communication with teachers.
