‘I really wanted my students to stop seeing writing as a mechanical exercise to practise grammar points,’ says Usoa Sol. ‘Now they (the students) are more aware that there is somebody reading their text, they can do a lot better than they thought and they’ve taken responsibility for their own learning and this has had a huge impact.’
By working on their personal learning goals, the students change the way they perceive English writing tasks, from something that simply practises the English done in class to producing a real text with a real message and a real readership.
