Birthday Graphs Activity
- In groups of two or three, the pupils write a list of the months of the year on a piece of paper.
- Tell them they are going to do a ‘birthday survey’.
- The pupils go round the class in their groups and find out when everyone has their birthday. They ask When is your birthday? and put a tick next to the month.
- When they have all the information for everyone in the class, show them how to create a graph. Have the months on the horizontal axis and the number of people on the vertical axis. The class draw graphs in their groups.
The pupils could make their graphs poster size using different colours for each month. They could also try to write some sentences about each month, eg Three pupils have a birthday in December or No-one has a birthday in April, etc.
